The "white and purple" wedding described as "sickening" by the villagers in Ximhungwe in Mpumalanga, South Africa was the marriage of Saneie Masilela and 62-year old Helen Shabangu, mother of five.
According to Mirror UK, the "lavish" controversial marriage ceremony was attended by 100 guests including the bride's long-term husband, Alfred Shabangu, 66. Shabangu stood beside his wife as witness.

Around $1,708 were spent for the wedding ceremony and another $854 to secure the bride. The wedding was a ritual to honor the wishes of Masilela's dead ancestors, who in the previous year had told him to marry, both parties claimed.

Mirror UK claimed this is not the first time the couple has wed. The first one was in 2013. Following South African tradition, the second ceremony was a renewal of their vows and also to make their wedding "official."
