4th Season's Premiere of Rick and Morty Pays Homage to Akira and Anime

It is interesting that Rick and Morty have not made any significant reference to the medium in any of the episodes in the past few years, as popular and famous animation has been. It's surprising that even some of the most popular anime works in the fan-favored science fiction comedy series have not received a joking reference. Okay, everything changes when Morty goes full of Akira to pursue whatever he wants in the premiere of his long awaited fourth season.

For a quick picture on the finishing touches to Rick and Morty's premiere of the 4th season, please be careful of spoilers if you want to blind yourself absolutely. But nothing important will be spoiled in this article.

Morty gets fascinated with a special crystal in the Season 4 premiere that helps him to see several potentials of death. In order to live with him and his crushing Jessica, Morty begins to steal a bunch of technology, to take anyone down the road to this future. This eventually leads him to use a tool for Akira to become an amorphous blob as does Tetsuo once swallowed by his own impulses.

If at the end of the episode everything returns to normal, Jerry chastises Rick for "turning[ his] son into an Akira" (even pronouncing it a little strange). After a while, Jerry ends the debate among both, "I don't want to see any more Anime (pronounced" Ah-knee-May) "things happening to my brother, buster!" Rick then goes on to this with "I've got my butt Jerry! He's turned Akira!"

It seems like this series has finally made the time for anime it. Rick and Morty is known for its cheeky riffs on popular culture.
